United States of America marks Independence Day

Chisinau, 04 July /MOLDPRES/ – The United States of America celebrates today the anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on 04 July 1776, when it was proclaimed the independence from the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (UK of GB&NI).
The country comprises 50 states and one federal district (Colombia). It has an area of 9.8 million square km and a population of 325.7 million inhabitants. The US capital is Washington. Other cities are: New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston, Philadelphia, San Diego, Boston, San Francisco, etc.
The US economy is the largest in the world. With a value of $18 trillion, it is a quarter (24.3 per cent) of global wealth, according to World Bank data, quoted by the World Economic Forum.
The USA exports means of transport, industrial equipment and machinery, machine tools, electrical and digital equipment, chemicals, textiles, etc. It imports mining raw materials, oil, tea, coffee, food. Its foreign trade is constituted with Canada, Japan, Mexico and Western European countries.
The diplomatic relations between Moldova and USA were established on 28 February 1992.
In order to boost the economic relations between Moldova and USA, it was created the Moldovan – American Trade and Economic Cooperation Committee in 2003. Its recent meeting was held in Washington on 03 March 2014, during the official visit to the United States of the then Moldovan PM, Iurie Leanca.
According to the data of the National Bureau of Statistics (BNS), the volume of foreign trade (without taking into account commercial activity of economic agents from Eastern districts) of Moldova with the USA in 2017 registered the amount of $89.04 million, of which export constituted $18.8 million, and imports $70.2 million. Compared to trade in 2016, within 2017, there is an increase in exports to US by 10.7 per cent and an increase in imports by 31.8 per cent.
Since 1992, the United States has provided Moldova with financial assistance worth almost $1.4 billion. In 2017, the volume of assistance provided through USAID amounted to approximately $23.7 million.
