Chisinau, 29 November /MOLDPRES/ – The Parliament ratified today the Council of Europe Convention on manipulation in sports competitions.
According to the Convention, the notion of "manipulation in sports competitions" refers to "arranged matches", illegal sports betting and sport corruption. The document aims to prevent, detect, punish and discipline about the manipulation of sporting results and improve the exchange of info at international level between the concerned public authorities, sports organisations and sports betting operators. The document recommends sports organisations and competition organisers to apply stricter rules to combat corruption in sports, tougher sanctions and disciplinary measures. The Convention also provides for measures to protect informants and witnesses.
The Council of Europe Convention on manipulation in sports competitions was drawn up in Magglingen/Macolin, Switzerland, in September 2014. The convention signed 15 states at an interministerial conference.
