Moldova's Association of Sportspeople and Coaches denounce corruption schemes in Olympic movement

Chisinau, 23 July /MOLDPRES/ - The Association of Sportspeople and Coaches of Moldova has sent a letter to the Moldovan leadership, thereby denouncing eventual corruption schemes in the Olympic movement.

”We, a big group of performance sportspeople and merited coaches of Moldova, those who daily bring the fame of our country abroad and improve its sports image, convincingly demand that you cease the lawless acts and financial frauds at the National Olympic Committee of Moldova (CNOS),” the letter reads.

The letter’s authors say that the ground meant for the construction of the CNOS’ headquarters had been allocated free of charge by the Chisinau municipal council. Yet, subsequently, in 2018, it was sold to a constructions company against as little as 9 million lei (over 450,000 euros at the today’s exchange rate), although the market price exceeds 1.5 million euros.

„The illegal commissions at the reception of Olympic scholarships, purchasing of sports equipment at high prices, settlement of sports problems through schemes of bribe, purloining of public money, sale of accreditations at international competitions, including at Olympic Games, family businesses, double standards at the use of the state budget and of the funds of the International Olympic Committee – are just some of the “performances” representing the visiting card of CNOS,” the letter also reads.

In this context, the letter’s authors informed that the collection of signatures of representatives of the sports community against the Olympic corruption took place at present.
