The 170th birthday anniversary of Moldova's great national poet to be marked through more cultural actions

Chisinau, 11 January /MOLDPRES/ - More cultural actions will be held in Moldova’s capital and all over the country on 15 January, occasioned by the 170th birthday anniversary of the great classical poet, Mihai Eminescu. The National Culture Day is marked on the same day.   

The events are organized by the Education, Culture and Research Ministry, Moldovan Writers’ Union, Mihail Kogalniceanu National Museum of Romanian Literature, Mihai Eminescu National Cultural Institute, Mihai Eminescu National Theatre and the Chisinau city hall.  

The actions will start will laying flowers at the bust of Mihai Eminescu, followed by a recital of poets, actors and singers invited, book presentations, on the Alley of Classics of the Romanian Literature, on 15 January, the Culture Day and birthday of poet Mihai Eminescu, at 10:00.   

Topic-related exhibitions will be inaugurated at the Writers’ House of Moldova at 12:00.

At 13:00, the National Library of Moldova (BNRM) will inaugurate an exhibition-event about poet Mihai Eminescu. The exhibition will comprise book titles about the work and man Eminescu, which have appeared during time, works in the fields of science, politics, social problems and philosophy. Rare books, facsimile editions, albums of post cards and post stamps, Eminescu’s rare notebooks, tiny books, works of analysis and literary criticism of Eminescu’s works, books translated into various languages will be exhibited.   

At 15:00, an exhibition and contest of contemporary art, dedicated to the National Culture Day and the 170th birthday anniversary of Mihai Eminescu, will be inaugurated at the Constantin Brancusi Exhibition Centre. According to the head of the Fine Artists’ Union, Dumitru Bolboceanu, the exhibition contains over 90 works of painting, graphic, tapestry and sculpture by Moldovan artists.   

On the occasion of the National Culture Day, the Education, Culture and Research Ministry will organize the Gala of Annual Prizes in the culture sector, the 2020 issue, at the Chisinau-based Organ Hall at 16:30. The prizes are awarded for the most representative works in the fields of literature, theatre, music, choreography, fine arts, librarianship, restoration, preservation of cultural heritage and museography in 2019. The goal of the action is to support and promote the creative capacities and improve the interpretative mastership of the culture people from Moldova.      

A show of poetry and music titled, Al meu nume o să-l poarte... (My name will be borne…) will take place at the Mihai Eminescu National Theatre also on 15 January at 18:30. More well-known Moldovan actors and singers will participate in the event, as well as the Chamber Orchestra of the Mihai Eminescu National Theatre, conducted by Sergiu Racenco.   

Mihai Eminescu, regarded by the posthumous literary criticism as the most important poet of the Romanian literature, was born in Botosani, Romania, on 15 January 1850. Eminescu died in Bucharest on 15 June 1889. On 28 October 1948, Mihai Eminescu was posthumously elected as member of the Romanian Academy.   

The National Culture Day was established under a parliament decision from 2012, and is aimed at promoting the national culture, authentic cultural values, as well as the personalities from the culture sector. Marked in diverse countries in different ways, in Moldova, the National Culture Day is dedicated to the birthday of the great poet, Mihai Eminescu.
