Contacted by MOLDPRES, Vitalie Gutu said that the idea to collect photos with immortalized Martisors in diverse corners of the world had come 2 years ago. ‘’Now, my idea has materialized in this exhibition. Besides the fact that I wanted to show the citizens of Moldova that those who left the country do not forget of traditions, customs, their roots, I wanted the visitors of this exhibition know the most important tourist objects from abroad. Thus, the exhibition is also a tourist guide,’’ Gutu specified.
According to the deputy director of the National Library, Veronica Bors, this exhibition represents an original way of promoting the Martisor, which is part of Moldova’s intangible heritage.
The Martisor is an ancient holiday in the south-east European area, which marks the coming of spring. The Martisors are worn till end of March, after which they are tied of fruit-trees’ branches.
The cultural practices associated to the 1 March day in December 2017 were included in the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity and represent a joint initiative of Moldova, Romania, Bulgaria and North Macedonia.
