Infection with staphylococcus triggers intoxication of pupils from south Moldova Gagauz autonomy

Chisinau, 10 March /MOLDPRES/ - The intoxication of pupils from the gymnasium of the Cioc-Maidan village, south Moldova Gagauz-Yeri Autonomy, was triggered by an infection with staphylococcus. For the time being, it is not clear where this infection appeared from at the institution’s food unit; yet, the authorities say that they will learn this till the end of this week, according to the regional media.    

The head of the health and social protection department at the executive body from Comrat, Svetlana Duleva, said that, “presently, the children’s health is out of any danger and the competent structures learned the needed lessons from the emerged situation.”

The decision-maker noted that, for the moment, 26 children remained hospitalized. This is caused by the need to repeat analyses, but, in fact, the pupils are ready for being discharged from hospital.

„We should also repeat some analyses and be sure that the disciples of the gymnasium are absolutely healthy. If the results of the investigations are good, on 11 March, all pupils will be discharged from hospital. The important thing is that all of them feel good; yet, this case is a lesson for all of us. As a result, we have undertaken more actions of informing and prevention in teaching staff and school canteens; we had more joint meetings with representatives of the National Food Safety Agency (ANSA), medical staff and kitchens from education institutions. We learned the necessary lessons,” Svetlana Duleva said, cited by the website www.gagauzinfo.md      

On 3 March, 36 pupils of the gymnasium from the Cioc-Maidan village were put in the Comrat-based hospital with food intoxication. The Gagauz autonomy opened an epidemiological investigation on this case and during the inquiry the work of the food unit from this institution was suspended, under a decision by ANSA.
