Chisinau, 16 November /MOLDPRES/ - The leader of the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS), Maia Sandu, who won the runoff elections, according to preliminary data by the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), held a news briefing today. At the briefing, she thanked the citizens, state’s civil servants and partners for support. ‘’The victory is yours, the power is yours,’’ Maia Sandu said.

„Citizens of Moldova, you have won. The people of Moldova are good and fair. The patience has been put to test many times. The Moldovans’ solidarity surprised the whole world yesterday. I thank the team for the work carried out; I thank the state’s civil servants who did their job correctly; I thank all people from various political parties. Everybody’s involvement was a step towards victory. Dear people of Moldova, the victory is yours. The power is yours. The people voted for a country which unites. The trust given honours me. The mandate of president is not an award; it is a great responsibility. The true power is of those who gave the vote,’’ Sandu said.

The PAS leader also said that, after the swearing in office, she would start consultations with the factions, in order to find solutions to the country’s urgent problems. ‘’We will work to cease the schemes and to promote exports and attract investments. I will work with and for the citizens. We will work, so that Moldova be a good home for all its citizens,’’ Sandu added.

CEC’s preliminary data, after the processing of all official reports, shows that Maia Sandu picked up 57.75 per cent of the votes and Igor Dodon – 42.25.

Igor Dodon today informed that he was ‘’preliminarily’’ congratulating Maia Sandu on victory, noting that he would contest the results of the ballot.
