PM meets members of Council of Lawyers' Union of Moldova

Chisinau, 27 November /MOLDPRES/ -Prime Minister Ion Chicu met a group of lawyers members of the Council of Lawyers’ Union at the government today, in order to consider aspects of the fiscal policy for 2021, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
The PM took advantage of the meeting and thanked the lawyers, jurists and notaries, who were obliged to provide services on the period of the pandemic. ‘’I offer thanks and apologies for the regime in which you have worked in this difficult year. We face complicated times; yet, we must join efforts to cope with the challenges,’’ Ion Chicu said.
In particular, at the meetings, the discussions were focused on aspects concerning the income tax and social insurances which regard the representatives of legal professions.
The members of the Lawyers’ Union confirmed that they had come across more difficulties because of the pandemic this year, including the low level in the demand of legal services; nevertheless, they had to pay taxes to the state plus maintenance expenses.
In the context, the lawyers made a proposal to the government to revise the way of fixed contribution for social insurances of legal professions’ representatives for 2021, with eventual possibility of choice: either the payment of a fixed contribution worth 12,000 lei/year and benefiting from a minimal package of social allocations or payment of a fixed contribution worth 24,000 lei/year and benefiting from a bigger package of social services on behalf of the state. In this respect, the lawyers set forth their vision as concerns the possibility to diminish the fiscal burden from jurists.
At the meeting, the sides exchanged opinions on the proposals made. At the same time, they discussed also other difficulties of the lawyers, such as the migration of young specialists in the sector, as well as the low pensions.
The prime minister said that the proposals by the members of the Council of the Lawyers’ Union would be thoroughly considered by the Finance Ministry, till the draft of the fiscal policy for 2021 is given final touches.
