Agricultural sector to get aid worth 60 million lei

Chisinau, 2 December /MOLDPRES/- Regulation on determining financial aid by the Russian government intended to partially compensate the damage caused by the 2020 drought on maize and soil preparation for 2021 entered into force once published in the Official Journal of Moldova today.
The document sets out the procedure for granting, way and process of calculating the amount of financial aid, as well as the method of distributing the money. The responsible authority for its implementation will be the Agency for Interventions and Payments in Agriculture (AIPA).
Compensation will be granted to agricultural producers whose fields cultivated with maize have been affected by drought to the extent of 60% and more. According to estimates, the total area affected by natural disasters is 505 thousand hectares.
The Ministry of Finance will allocate to the Ministry of Agriculture and Regional Development 59730.0 thousand lei from the Government intervention fund.
Following the signing of the Agreement between the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Moldova and the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation, the Government of the Republic of Moldova received non-reimbursable financial assistance amounting to 275.0 million Russian rubles to support agricultural producers suffering from natural disasters.
