OpenMoney platform re-launched in Moldova

Chisinau, 2 December /MOLDPRES/ - Citizens will be able to watch how the public money is spent and who are the true beneficiaries of the contracts assigned by state institutions, due to the OpenMoney 2.0 platform, re-launched in a new version today. The platform uses open data, processed automatically, in order to show the connections between the contracts on public procurements and the end beneficiaries.

The initiative belongs to the Institute for European Policies and Reforms (IPRE) and SENSMEDIA Company, supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Moldova.

„OpenMoney 2.0 is an updated version of the homonymous platform launched in 2016, within the first anticorruption hackathon initiated by UNDP. During time, the platform showed its efficiency proving that it is a useful and necessary instrument for a wide group of users: journalists, authorities, activists of the civil society, inquirers and any person interested in this subject,’’ UNDP sources said.

The platform’s goal is to identify corrupt practices, fake auctions, fictitious companies and their owners, in order to ensure the transparency and help establish better practices in the governance and public administration.

According to the quoted source, after the re-launch, the platform will have a string of new functionalities, including the integration of public data from the available governmental online platforms and placing information on public procurements, according to the administrative and territorial units of Moldova. At the same time, decision-makers developed both an improved system of collection and presentation of data and a wide use platform, available for citizens.

Starting from 2016 till present, the OpenMoney platform has been navigated by 181,161 single users, with 646,047 pages accessed. The information provided on the platform was used in more journalistic investigations.

The initiative fits into a project titled, Fight against corruption through strengthening Moldova’s integrity, implemented by the United Nations Development Programme Moldova, with the support of Norway’s Foreign Affairs Ministry.
