United Nations Alley to be created at Chisinau-based Botanical Garden

Chisinau, 4 December /MOLDPRES/ - The UN Alley will be created at the Botanical Garden from Chisinau, on the occasion of marking the 75th anniversary of the foundation of the United Nations Organization (UNO). The initiative belongs to representatives of the Botanical Garden and will be supported by the Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Ministry (MADRM) through allocation of financial means necessary from the National Ecological Fund, according to MADRM.    

„The creation of the UN Alley, on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the institution’s foundation, is a universal call to action to implement the Sustainable Development Goals established till 2030. Moldova is member of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, for which reason we want to enhance the commitments seen in Moldova’s updated Nationally Determined Contribution, worked out in line with the provisions of the Paris Agreement. Thus, Moldova adjusts its efforts to the international standards, in order to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions,’’ competent minister Ion Perju said.      

Director of the Botanical Garden Ion Rosca said that the UN Alley would be placed nearby the park’s central entrance and would replace the alley of birch trees, hit by the heavy snowfall from 19-21 April 2017, as well as in the wake of the hydrological drought from the last two years.

The Energy Policy and Development Centre of the National Kapodistrian University of Athens launched an initiative titled, 75 Trees for Those 75 years of UN, on the occasion of marking the 75th anniversary of the United Nations’ foundation. The action is support for carrying out the Sustainable Development Goals till 2030 and namely the Goal 7: accessible and clean energy. All states party to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, including Moldova, join this initiative, to strengthen the efforts internationally, in order to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions.
