Retirement age of judges to be increased in Moldova

Chisinau, 4 December /MOLDPRES/ - The retirement age for judges will be increased. The MPs approved, in the second reading, a draft on amendment of the law on the status of judge at the today’s plenary meeting.
The draft, which sees the gradual increase in the judges’ retirement age, both for men and women, was backed by 53 lawmakers.
Thus, beginning with 1 July 2021, a retirement age of 50 years and six months is established for judges; this age will gradually increase up to 63 years. Each year, the retirement age will increase by 6 months.
Also, starting from 1 July 2021, the draft establishes for judges the general length of pensionable service of 20 years and six months and a length of service in the office of judge of at least 13 years, needed to get the right to pension.
Under the draft’s provisions, the quantum of pension will be equal to 55 per cent of the monthly average salary. The quantum will increase by 3 per cent for each full work year exceeding the general length of pensionable service. Also, the pension’s quantum will not be able to exceed 80 per cent of the average monthly salary.
